How do I improve an inaccurate location on my Android device?
Before reading this article, please make sure that you are checking the settings on the phone of the user having the problem (i.e. the one whose location is not accurate). For example, if you are a parent who is seeing an inaccurate location on your child's phone, then the settings below should be checked on the child's phone to make sure it is connecting properly.
Namola has developed the app to work as smoothly as possible and so we suggest as a first step to check the app permissions in your Namola app:
- Open the Namola app
- Tap on the Profile tab (last tab on the bottom of the screen)
- Tap "App Permissions"
We advise that you do not alter the settings of the Namola App too much. There are times however when the battery settings or phone settings might override certain app functionalities (notably - live location sharing), in which case you can then follow the steps below:
Note: There is a slight delay in receiving a live-location on Android devices.
To begin, make sure each phone has all location services turned ON, including GPS and WiFi. Turning GPS on for your phone does not improve the accuracy of your contact's locations, they must turn this ON for their phone.
Tip: Turning on your WiFi can improve your location accuracy.
Even if you are not connected to the WiFi network, your phone uses nearby WiFi stations to narrow a more accurate location when travelling. Using WiFi indoors will also improve the accuracy of your location as because GPS does not work indoors and your phone needs to rely on the location of the nearest cellphone tower to get your location. With your WiFi on, your phone can more accurately locate you inside.
Battery Optimization
Removing an app from battery optimization enables full functionality.
Most Android devices will automatically enable battery saver when a device’s battery reaches a critical level.
App launch
- Select manage manually
- Allow auto-launch
- Allow run in the background
- Allow open by other apps
Location Accuracy
- Ensure that your device give Namola access to your location
- Select location mode- Set to high accuracy
- Click location access- Advance
- Enable WiFi scanning and Bluetooth scanning.
Accuracy depends on many factors, such as your environment and your phone. At times, a highly accurate location won’t be available as the phone network will be poor. Having the app open on your phone can improve location accuracy. When the Namola app is running in the background, location accuracy will not be as high.
